Dr. Shane P. Mulvihill

The first thing patients often notice about Dr. Shane P. Mulvihill is that he prefers to go by his first name instead of his last name, which is a good thing considering his last name is not very common. He was born and raised in Ohio, but after optometry school and his residency, he made his way to Tennessee and found a home with EyeXcel.

He actually originally contacted us because he had heard a rumor that one of our doctors was retiring and a spot was open, and even though that wasn’t true, it was offered for him to join the practice before he could say no. Dr. Gilliland already has 20 years of clinical experience and jumped right in and is a great asset to our patients by not only practicing general optometry but by offering the only low vision specialty clinic in our area of East Tennessee.

I will begin with I do not write reviews, but this experience deserves the time to take out to share how wonderful this place is. I have had issues with my eye going in (like a lazy or cross-eye) when I focus all my life, even my best of friends made fun of me. I have been to eye doctors all my life, had to do eye exercises when I was a kid. Well here we are 28 years old and it’s getting worse. I was due for new glasses and came across this place with specialized help with eye rehabilitations! Didn’t know of such a thing!! I knew right then there was hope. Well I went there and the staff is all wonderful! Nice friendly and so comforting when I explained my concern with my eyes she ensured I’m not crazy. That alone was just such a relief-as I’ve literally thought I was my whole life! Then actually being able to have the doctor diagnose it like give it a name! He has a solution within literally minutes. With a lens rather than a therapy I couldn’t have been happier with this. Why hasn’t any doctor done this for me?? I literally can’t thank him enough.
